Master offshore and dredging engineering

More than two-thirds of the earth’s surface is covered by water. The potential of the ocean is enormous: Renewable energy, Marine minerals and Sustainable nutrition. While indispensable to empower our future societies, the utilization of these resources requires engineers with top-level technical knowledge. At the same time, we carry the responsibility to use the ocean in synergy with the environment and to prevent irreversible and excessive impact on the ecosystem.

As a student in the MSc Offshore & Dredging Engineering (ODE), you will receive high level training on the fundamental physical principles for engineering in the ocean environment such as: Hydrodynamics, Structural mechanics and Soil mechanics. You will learn to ask the right question to find the best technical solutions.

Courses

The first year of the Master Program consists of Obligatory Courses (60 ECTS). During the second year of the program you will have the possibility to choose electives (15 ECTS). This can either be Courses, an Internship or a Multi-Disciplinary Project.

First year program:

1st Quarter

OE44170 Offshore Renewables Technologies (5)

OE44205 Offshore Geotechnical Engineering (5)

OE44150 Marine Hydromechanics (5)

2nd Quarter

OE44210 Offshore Design Project (5)

4th Quarter

OE44185 Numerical Methods for Offshore and Dredging Engineering (7)

OE44190 Offshore Research Project (7)

Throughout the first year, you will also engage in self-reflection as an offshore engineer (1 ECTS).
For a more detailed description of the program and courses, we refer to the Study Guide.

MSC Thesis

The MSc Thesis consists of the Literature Review and the Graduation Project. The Literature Review concerns a problem in the domain of Offshore & Dredging Engineering that is analysed thoroughly to define a relevant research question. During the Graduation Project, the research question is investigated by means of an applicable methodology, such as numerical or physical experiments. Most graduation projects are accommodated by a company.

Course evaluation

The Student Response Team of ODE is responsible for the course evaluations. This team consists of Four Students with one representative of DOT. By doing Mid-Term Feedback Surveys students can give their opinion, which gives them the opportunity to improve the courses they are currently following. The Student Response Team represents all the students of ODE in the Board of Studies.

Do you want to be part of the Student Response Team of ODE or do you have any thoughts on improving courses or suggestions which need to be discussed at the Board of Studies, please send an email to dot@tudelft.nl.

admission, aplication and bridging

For detailed information about the Admission and Application to the master we refer to MSc Offshore and Dredging Engineering - TU Delft. If you have any questions about the bridging possibilities reach out to: schakel-3me@tudelft.nl.

International opportunities

The MSc Offshore and Dredging Engineering programme offers several opportunities for students to study abroad. These include opportunities to do internships, to follow courses as an exchange student, or to do an MSc thesis project with an international industrial partner.

After the MSc programme the international possibilities are very present. With offshore structures in 23 different seas, gulfs and oceans, and offshore financial centres in 98 countries, the industry is very much global. Graduates of this programme are found around the world, from India, Mumbai to Australia, Brisbane and Singapore, to name a few.
